Diagnosis and Treatment of Eye Disease

Ocular examination instruments

Dr. Nichols will perform a complete assessment of your vision and ocular health in order to diagnose conditions or prevent them from starting. For more information about specific eye conditions, visit the Minnesota Optometric Association .

Your exam will include a full eye health assessment which includes an examination of the inside and outside of your eyes including dilation, an intraocular pressure evaluation (often referred to as the “glaucoma test”), photography of the eyes if necessary, visual field examination if necessary, and many other tests that are done on an as-needed basis.

With regular eye examinations many eye conditions can be prevented or caught at a very early stage, making treatment more manageable and vision loss much less likely. Annual examination is recommended for most patients. Please come to your appointment with any questions and concerns regarding the maintenance of your ocular health.

Contact Lens Fittings

Contact lenses on a table ready to be worn

With so many new advances in contact lens technology, many people can wear contacts that never felt comfortable wearing them before, or who have dropped out of contact lens wear in the past because of comfort or vision issues. Be sure to ask about the many contact lens options that we can offer, including lenses that you can sleep in for up to 30 nights!

As an extra convenience, you can also order contact lenses from us directly.

Bifocal Contact Lenses

Are you tired of wearing those readers? Wouldn’t it be great to be the only one at the table not pulling out your readers to see the menu? Then bifocal contacts could be a great solution for you. Unlike traditional bifocal glasses or progressive lenses, bifocal contacts can give you 360 degree vision for all distance, intermediate, and near tasks. After a health assessment and fitting process, Dr. Nichols can recommend the best multifocal system for you. Each system is tailored to the individual patient, giving you the best vision for your particular visual needs. The custom fitting process usually takes about three visits, so be prepared for several 1-2 week follow ups after your initial fitting. If you’ve never worn contacts before, don’t worry. We are here to teach you to care for and handle the lenses and make sure you are completely comfortable with the entire process.

Lasik Consultations

If you are considering Lasik vision correction, Perspectives Vision Clinic is an excellent place to start this process. We have excellent relationships established with only the best and most trusted Lasik surgeons in the area.

We will begin by giving you a complete eye exam including dilation to make some initial determinations about whether you are a candidate. You will then visit the surgical center and go through additional testing to make further recommendations about which refractive procedure will be right for you. If it has been determined that you are a good candidate for the procedure you will schedule your surgery with the Lasik center, then the post-operative care can be performed right here with us.

We will be here every step of the way to ensure that your questions are being answered and your needs are being met.

Pediatric Eye Care

Children are welcome here! Vision is so important to our young ones, especially with the increased exposure they have to computer use when learning and playing in our modern world. Dr. Nichols performs specialized testing for children that assesses the way the eyes work together and of course how well they see. It’s not just about seeing 20/20. We need to ensure that the eye muscles and focusing skills of your child are within optimal limits to eliminate visual stress, discomfort, and avoidance of near work, and to optimize visual efficiency and comprehension.

Infants are also welcome! Dr. Nichols is an InfantSEE provider, providing a one-time, comprehensive eye assessment to infants in their first year of life, offering early detection of potential eye and vision problems at no cost regardless of income. For more information on InfantSEE, please visit www.infantsee.org or call our office.

The first eye examination for your child is recommended at the age of 6 months, the second at around age 4, and then annually once they enter school. Kids grow so quickly and annual eye exams allow us to keep your child’s vision working in a way that maximizes their potential for learning.

Computer Vision Care

When most of our patients tell us how much they use the computer each day, we almost always get the response “all day.” Significant eyestrain can often result from this long term task; in fact, according to the American Optometric Association, eye and vision problems are the most frequently reported health care problems among computer users. We can work with you to reduce the stress caused by computer use and maximize your comfort and productivity.

Computer vision syndrome involves the many eye and vision problems related to near work that are experienced during or related to computer use. These symptoms include not only eye strain, but also dry eyes and chronic back or neck pain. Optimizing your comfort while working at the computer often involves a combination of the following: utilizing a specialized pair of glasses, altering your work space for maximum ergonomics, re-directing light sources to reduce glare and reflections, taking frequent mini-breaks, and using a humidifier in the office. We at Perspectives Vision Clinic understand the importance of efficiency, productivity, and comfort in the workplace and we will work with you to maximize all of these and more.
